Privacy Policy — Quick Chrome History
The short version: Quick Chrome History reads your Chrome browsing history and download history so it can show them to you, build statistics, and export them to files on your computer. All of this happens inside your own browser. We do not have a backend, and your history is never sent to us or to anyone else. There is no account, no signup, no analytics and no tracking.
This Privacy Policy describes how the Chrome extension “Quick Chrome History: View, Export & Import Browsing History” (“Quick Chrome History”, “the Extension”, “we”) handles data. The Extension is available on the Chrome Web Store. It runs on the user’s machine and has no server-side component.
1. Our principles
- Privacy policies should be human-readable. No legal cosplay, no boilerplate describing things we don’t do.
- The simplest data practice is no data practice. The less we collect, store, or transmit, the less can leak.
- Match the reasonable expectation of the user. You installed an extension to view, export and import your history. It does that and nothing else.
2. What data we process
2.1 Handled locally on your device
Working with your history is the whole point of the Extension, so it does handle web browsing activity. It does so only on your device:
- Browsing history — page URLs, page titles, visit dates and times, and visit counts, read from Chrome’s own history when you open the History or Statistics page, start an export, or when a scheduled auto-export runs. The Extension does not keep its own copy: the data is processed in memory and discarded when the page or export is done.
- Download history — file names, folder paths, source URLs, referrers, file types, sizes and download status, read from Chrome only when you choose to view or export your download history.
- Exported files — the CSV, Excel, JSON or Text files you create (manually or on your schedule) are written straight to your Downloads folder. Scheduled backups go to
Downloads/History Export/. These are ordinary files on your computer and fully under your control. - Imported files — when you import a file you exported earlier, it is read locally in your browser and its page addresses are added back into Chrome’s history. The file is not uploaded anywhere.
- Current tab address — when you open the popup, the Extension reads the address of the active tab to offer the “Use current tab” site filter. It is not saved.
- Settings — stored in
chrome.storage.local: your last chosen data set, period, format and date range; your auto-export schedule (on/off, frequency, format, coverage, and the time and file name of the last backup); and the state of the rating prompt (how many exports you made and whether you rated or dismissed it). Your light/dark theme choice is kept in the Extension’s ownlocalStorage.
The Extension does not read, store or change the content of the pages you visit. It has no content scripts and no access to websites.
2.2 Data sent to our servers
None. We have no servers. The Extension does not send your history, your files, your settings, or any identifier to us or to any third party. The only times it opens anything on the internet are the two web pages described in §2.4, and it passes no data to them.
2.3 How we use the data
The data described above is used solely to provide the Extension’s single purpose — letting you view, analyze, export and import your own browsing and download history:
- browsing and download history — to show it in the History page, calculate the Statistics dashboard, apply your site and date filters, and build the export files you ask for;
- imported files — only to add those pages back into Chrome’s history;
- the current tab address — only to fill in the site filter when you click “Use current tab”;
- settings — only to remember your choices, run auto-export on time, and decide when to show the rating prompt.
None of it is used to build a profile of you, it is not used for advertising, and it is not shared (see §6).
2.4 Web pages the Extension opens
- Welcome page. Right after installation the Extension opens https://tankisleva.github.io/quick-chrome-history/ in a new tab. It is a static page hosted on GitHub Pages. It loads the Inter font from Google Fonts and has no analytics or tracking. The Extension passes no data to it. As with any website, GitHub and Google may receive standard request information such as your IP address and browser type; see the GitHub Privacy Statement and the Google Privacy Policy.
- Feedback form. A Google Form (
forms.gle) opens in a new tab if you click a star in the rating prompt, and Chrome opens it after you uninstall the Extension. The address is fixed and carries no data about you or your history. Filling it in is entirely optional. Anything you choose to type is sent to Google Forms and read by us only to answer you and improve the Extension. Google’s Privacy Policy applies to the form.
3. What we do NOT collect
- Names, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses
- Account credentials, passwords, cookies, or authentication tokens
- Payment or financial information
- Health information, location, or personal communications (emails, chats, messages)
- The content of the pages you visit (text, images, form inputs)
- Any copy of your browsing or download history on our side — it is handled only locally (see §2.1)
- Analytics, telemetry, crash reports, or device identifiers
- Keystrokes, mouse movements, or screen recordings
- Data from children under 13 (knowingly)
4. Permissions we request and why
The Extension requests only the permissions it needs to do its job, as declared on its Chrome Web Store listing. Each permission is used locally on your device to provide the feature it belongs to — none of them is used to transmit your data to us or to any third party.
- history — to read your browsing history for the History page, Statistics and exports, and to add pages back into history when you import a file. The Extension never deletes your history.
- downloads — to save export files and scheduled backups to your Downloads folder, to read your download history when you choose to view or export it, and to power the “Show in folder” button.
- storage — to save your preferences, auto-export schedule and rating prompt state on your device.
- alarms — to run auto-export daily or weekly. A missed backup runs the next time the browser starts.
- activeTab — to read the address of the current tab only when you open the popup, so you can export the history of that one site. The address is not saved or sent anywhere.
The Extension requests no host permissions and injects no scripts into websites, so it cannot read or change the pages you visit.
5. Data retention
- Browsing and download history — stays in Chrome’s own history, which Chrome manages and usually keeps for about 90 days. The Extension keeps no copy of its own.
- Exported files — stay in your Downloads folder until you delete them. They are plain, unencrypted files: anyone with access to your computer, or to a cloud folder that syncs your Downloads, can open them.
- Local settings — stay on your device until you uninstall the Extension or clear Chrome’s extension storage
- Feedback form answers — kept in Google Forms only as long as needed to respond to you and improve the Extension; you can ask us to delete them at any time
6. Data sharing, selling, and Limited Use
We do not sell, rent, or trade any data, and we do not share user data with advertisers or anyone else. Our use of any user data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Specifically:
- We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties, outside of the approved use cases.
- We do not use or transfer user data for purposes that are unrelated to the Extension’s single purpose.
- We do not use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
- We do not use user data to serve personalized, re-targeted, or interest-based advertising.
- We do not allow humans to read your data, except where you give explicit consent, where required for security, or to comply with applicable law.
7. Your rights
Because we do not collect personal data, there is nothing tied to “you” that we could look up on our side. You can:
- Delete your local data by uninstalling the Extension or clearing extension storage in Chrome’s settings
- Delete exported files from your Downloads folder like any other file
- Clear your history at any time in Chrome (
chrome://history) — the Extension can only see what Chrome still keeps - Contact us at luyovanay124@gmail.com with any questions or concerns, or to delete feedback you sent
If you are located in the EEA, UK, or California, you have rights under GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA including access, rectification, erasure, and objection. Contact us at the email above to exercise these rights.
8. International data transfers
The Extension does not transfer your history, files or settings internationally because it does not transmit them at all — everything stays on your device. If you choose to fill in the feedback form, your answers are processed by Google, which may store them outside your country.
9. Security
Your data is stored locally by Chrome on your own device. The Extension has no server-side component that could be breached to expose your data. All of its code is packaged with the Extension; it loads no remote code, has no host permissions, and does not run on the websites you visit. Should any future version need to transmit personal or sensitive user data, it will be sent only over a secure connection (HTTPS/WSS) and any data held remotely will be encrypted at rest using a strong method (such as AES or RSA).
10. Children
The Extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the Extension, contact us and we will take appropriate action.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top. Material changes will be communicated via the Chrome Web Store listing and/or our website.
